2nd call: Invitation for Foreign Young Researchers (Deadline: 2010/08/27) (completed)

 As a part of the Global COE program ”Education and Research Center for Material Innovation”, the Graduate School of Science and Engineering in Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) is to invite foreign young researchers from other countries who want to study in Tokyo Tech for a few months.

 

--- Guidelines for applicants ---

 (1) Applicant Eligibility:

  • PhD course student with more than 1 year research experience in PhD course as of application
  • Post doctoral young researcher
  • Young faculty or researcher in University and/or Research Institution

Note: All applicants must be age 35 or younger as of April 1, 2010

 

(2) Duration for staying in Tokyo Tech:

Maximum 3 months for PhD course students

Maximum 2 months for other young researchers

Note: Each stay should be completed by the end of February, 2011

 

(3) Host Departments in Tokyo Tech or Institution:

The following 4 material major departments in Tokyo Tech host your request. Graduate School of Science and Engineering

Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering

The following two institutions which cooperate with the GCOE can also host your request.

 

(4) Terms of financial support:

  • A round-trip air ticket (tourist-class)
  • A monthly accommodation expenses
  • A monthly maintenance allowance

Note: The amounts of financial support are calculated under the Tokyo Tech/AIST/NIMS rule on the assumption that the accommodation would be equivalent to its guest house.

 

(5) Application deadline: July 21, 2010 through August 27, 2010

 

(6) Materials to be submitted:

  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. Explanation of own major research field (about 200 words)
  3. Research/Study plan during staying in host laboratory (about three pages including figure/table if necessary)
  4. Recommendation from applicant’s supervisor
  5. Short statement on the hope for pursuing research in Tokyo Tech/AIST/NIMS (indicate the name of host researcher and the department with whom you want to study in mind. Please contact him/her to discuss if the laboratory can host your research and duration of visit before application.)

 

(7) Application Process:

Submit application documents to host researcher, then the host researcher forwards the application documents to G-COE office via e-mail by the deadline.

 

(8) Selection Process:

After documentary screening for the application materials by the selection program committee of Tokyo Tech or the selection staffs in AIST/NIMS, the final result will be directly informed for each applicant and host researcher within three weeks after the deadline.

 

(9) Additional information:

The invited PhD students and/or young researchers are requested to submit about 10 pages activity report after completion their staying in Tokyo Tech.
